Entrance sign refurbished!!

Thanks to Marie and Buddy Catterton for their dedicated work to refurbish the sign at the entrance to our neighborhood.  Here’s a photo of the refurbished sign.

refurbished entry sign AFTER

The original sign was erected 12-15 years ago — it’s a carved wooden sign.  Over the years, paint dried and was peeling and flaking; wood had dried and was splintered; and, termites had attacked the back of the sign.

Marie and Buddy Catterton removed the old, weather-beaten sign.  They spent several weeks carefully scraping, sanding, filling, priming and painting.  They completed the work by applying two coats of varnish sealer.  They also cleaned, primed and re-painted the support posts.

THANK YOU, MARIE AND BUDDY FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!

Entrance sign painted, little more work needed

Marie and Buddy Catterton took on the task of restoring our entrance sign.  Here’s the way the sign looked before they started work.

This photo does not show the extensive termite damage on the rear of the sign, nor does it show the real condition of the paint — peeling, dried, flaking off.

And here’s the sign as of April 19 after weeks of scraping, filling, and painting.  They will apply two coats of sealer front and back, let the sealer dry, then they will re-mount the sign on the posts at the entrance to the neighborhood.

Thank you, Marie and Buddy!!

Thanks, Kathy and Don Peebles — Rebuilt Common Area Sign

The old sign at the entrance to the common area at the western end of Potomac Drive has been given new life thanks to Kathy and Don Peebles.  The old sign was designed, built, and painted by Carol Seymour.  Over the years, weather had taken a heavy toll on the sign, so, Kathy and Don took on the mission of refurbishing the sign.

They removed the old letters; sanded, scraped and repainted the sign background; purchased new letters as needed then cleaned and painted all the letters.  Here’s the rebuilt sign.

And here’s the “before” sign:

Thank you, Kathy and Don!!

Marie and Buddy Catterton are working on the sign at the neighborhood entrance.  After almost 15 years, the old carved wooden sign had been attacked by termites as well as the weather.  Marie and Buddy removed the sign from its mounting about two weeks ago.  Since then, they have cleaned and painted the mounting posts; scraped the old paint from the sign; applied several coats of primer-sealer; and are now painting the sign.  It should be done and back in place by early May.
